Rather expected game when 11th ranked Politehnica Iasi (6-25) was smashed at home by ninth ranked Timba Timosoara (8-20) 117-82 on Saturday. Timba Timosoara dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Politehnica Iasi's 30. They outrebounded Politehnica Iasi 41-24 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Timba Timosoara looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists. The winners were led by Mario Lazar (201-94) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points and 14 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and Montenegrin Damjan Kandic (208-84) supported him with 26 points and 6 rebounds. Even 27 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals by American swingman Jalen Jackson (198-94, college: UALR) did not help to save the game for Politehnica Iasi. Guard Constantin Amarghioalei (196-86) added 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Newly promoted Timba Timosoara maintains ninth position in Nationala with 8-20 record. Politehnica Iasi at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the eleventh place with 25 games lost. Timba Timosoara will meet at home higher ranked Craiova (#8) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Politehnica Iasi will play against CS Dinamo Bucuresti and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
