Second Stage Round 9: Ovarense - Terceira 85-61

Rather predictable result when eighth ranked Ovarense (16-15) smashed at home 10th ranked Terceira (11-17) 85-61. Ovarense dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Terceira's 26. Ovarense forced 26 Terceira turnovers. Strangely Terceira outrebounded Ovarense 36-24 including 22 on the defensive glass. Canadian-British forward Jermel Kennedy (201-89, college: Lander) nailed 19 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals for the winning side and American guard Ervin Mitchell (193, college: Grambling St.) accounted for 20 points. Four Ovarense players scored in double figures. Point guard Nuno Morais (183-90) came up with 18 points and 5 rebounds and American forward Manny Ogunfolu (201-89, college: S.Indiana) added 19 points respectively for Terceira in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Ovarense. They moved-up to seventh place in Places 7-12. Newly promoted Terceira keeps the tenth position with 17 games lost. Ovarense will play against Lusitania (#9) in Angra in the next round. Terceira will play on the road against Galitos-Barreiro and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
