But Rostock was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Trier 85-79 on Friday night. Gladiators made 22-of-25 free shots (88.0 percent) during the game. Power forward Johannes Joos (206-95) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and point guard Kevin Smit (183-91) chipped in 22 points. Four Gladiators players scored in double figures. Gladiators' coach Christian Held allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the losing side American guard Tony Hicks (186-94, college: Louisville) responded with 22 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Michael Jost (203-88) scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Gladiators will meet at home Ehingen/Urspringschule (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rostock will play against Baunach (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
