Date: September 22, 2018
An interesting game took place in Kaunas where P.Zvaigzdes (0-1) was upset on the court of Zalgiris (1-0) 103-66. It looked good early as P.Zvaigzdes took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Zalgiris had a 27-15 second period charge getting the lead and P.Zvaigzdes was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 66-103. Zalgiris made 28-of-34 charity shots (82.4 percent) during the game, while P.Zvaigzdes only scored eleven points from the stripe. Zalgiris forced 20 P.Zvaigzdes turnovers and outrebounded them 35-16 including a 26-11 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. 25 personal fouls committed by P.Zvaigzdes helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) who helped to win the game recording 14 points and 7 rebounds. International Edgaras Ulanovas (197-92) contributed with 17 points and 5 assists for the winners. Four Zalgiris players scored in double figures. Forward Gytis Sirutavicius (195-83) answered with 11 points and American swingman Justin Watts (196-90, college: N.Carolina, agency: Octagon Europe) added 7 points and 6 assists in the effort for P.Zvaigzdes. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Zalgiris' next round opponent will be Prienu Skycop in Prienai and it will be for sure the game of the week. P.Zvaigzdes will play at home against Neptunas (#1) and hope to win that game.
