Elchingen used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from Koeln 81-76 on Saturday night. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Elchingen forced 19 Koeln Rh.Stars turnovers. American guard Dennis Mavin (190-91, college: FIU) stepped up and scored 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and forward Brian Butler (196-91) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). At the losing side Tim Van-der-Velde (190-96) responded with 12 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals and center Yasin Kolo (208-92, college: Bellarmine) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Koeln Rh.Stars players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Elchingen will face FC Bayern II (#8) in Muenchen in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Koeln Rh.Stars will play at home against OrangeAcademy and hope to win that game and get promotion back to the ProA just one year after relegation.
