Regular Season Round 4: Zalgiris - Nevezis 81-68

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Zalgiris as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Zalgiris defeated bottom-ranked Nevezis in Kaunas 81-68. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-68. Zalgiris dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Nevezis' 26 and made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Nevezis 35-21 including 25 on the defensive glass. Zalgiris looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American center Brandon Davies (208-91, college: BYU, agency: BeoBasket) who helped to win the game recording 12 points and 7 rebounds and the former international Paulius Jankunas (205-84) who added 14 points during the contest. At the losing side swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) responded with 13 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Chauncey Collins (183-95, college: TCU, agency: Alti Sport) scored 14 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Zalgiris have a solid four-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Nevezis at the other side still closes the standings with four games lost. Nevezis will play next round against Siauliai trying to get back on the winning streak. Zalgiris will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Rytas in Vilnius.
