The most important game of round 1 took place in Istanbul where Acibadem beat Afyon Bld (0-1) 88-79 on Friday night. Spanish point guard Joaquin Colom (188-88, college: Forca Lleida, agency: Interperformances) stepped up and scored 32 points for the winners and Canadian-American Andrew Rautins (193-86, college: Syracuse) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side American-Bulgarian guard Earl Calloway (191-83, college: Indiana) responded with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and American guard Tyrus McGee (188-91, college: Iowa St.) scored 15 points. Afyon Bld will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest. Acibadem will try to continue on its current victory against Galatasaray. It will be extra interesting game as Galatasaray is their local rival from Istanbul.
