But Pinar Karsiyaka was not able to use a home court advantage and was smashed by the opponent from Bursa 82-55 on Saturday night. Tofas outrebounded Pinar Karsiyaka 40-28 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Tofas especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. American guard Sammy Mejia (199-83, college: De Paul) stepped up and scored 16 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners and his fellow American import guard Demonte Harper (193-89, college: Morehead St.) chipped in 13 points. At the losing side Egyptian forward Assem Marei (206-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds and international point guard Berk Ugurlu (191-96) scored 10 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Tofas will face Istanbul BBSK (#8) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Pinar Karsiyaka will play against Besiktas in Istanbul and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
