Regular Season Round 1: Kyiv Basket - Cherkasy 75-80

Very significant was Cherkasy's (#2) 80-75 road victory against Kyiv Basket. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Kyiv Basket won third quarter 15-12. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Cherkasy won last quarter 24-21. They made 19-of-24 charity shots (79.2 percent) during the game. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Kyiv Basket was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American forward Chris Cokley (203-96, college: UAB, agency: Interperformances) nailed 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import guard Brandon Young (193-91, college: De Paul) accounted for 18 points and 7 assists (made all of his seven free throws). Cherkasy's coach Maksym Mikhelson allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Maurice Creek (196-90, college: G.Washington) came up with 19 points and 4 assists and swingman Denis Noskov (202-90) added 17 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Kyiv Basket in the defeat. Four Kyiv Basket players scored in double figures. Cherkasy will play against Zaporizhye (#4) in Zaporozhye in the next round. Kyiv Basket will play at home against Mykolaiv and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
