Regular Season Round 3: Hoverla - Rivne 78-83

Another exciting game was played in Ivano-Frankivsk between Rivne-OSHVSM and Hoverla where Rivne-OSHVSM (3-0) beat Hoverla (2-1) on the road 83-78. It looked good early as Hoverla took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Rivne-OSHVSM had a 24-19 second period charge getting the lead and Hoverla was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 78-83. Rivne-OSHVSM dominated down low during the game scoring 46 of its points in the paint compared to Hoverla's 24 and made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Rivne-OSHVSM forced 24 Hoverla turnovers. It was a good game for point guard Illya Shemosiuk (188-85) who led his team to a victory with 21 points. Point guard Taras Shaniuk (179-92) contributed with 13 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) for the winners. Four Rivne-OSHVSM players scored in double figures. Rivne-OSHVSM's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Point guard Andriy Kalashnikov (175-89) answered with 28 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 6 steals and guard Oleksandr Shostuha (191-84) added 24 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Hoverla. Rivne-OSHVSM will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hoverla will play again at home against Rivne-OSHVSM and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
