Regular Season Round 5: Herford - Leverkusen FB 109-74

Rather predictable result when seventh ranked Herford (3-1) smashed at home 10th ranked Leverkusen FB (1-3) 109-74 on Saturday. They outrebounded Leverkusen FB 32-20 including 25 on the defensive glass. Leverkusen FB was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Sam Cassell-Jr (193-92, college: Iona) stepped up and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and forward Jan Brinkmann (201-91) chipped in 25 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). Four Herford players scored in double figures. Herford's coach Christos Diktapanidis felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Christian Froehlingsdorf (210-93) responded with 23 points and Marc Ra scored 17 points. Herford moved-up to second place in West, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Leverkusen FB keeps the tenth position with three games lost. Herford will have a break next round. Leverkusen FB will play on the road against Hagen BG (#7) and hope to win that game.
