Very expected game when 8th ranked Rotenburg/Scheessel (1-3) was defeated on the road by fourth ranked SV Halle Lions (3-1) 83-76 on Saturday. SV Halle Lions forced 19 Rotenburg/Scheessel turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Rotenburg/Scheessel's players. American forward Christin Mercer (186, college: Jacksonville) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Jalea Bennett (183-95, college: Arizona) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists. Four SV Halle Lions players scored in double figures. SV Halle Lions' coach Jose Araujo used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. American center Alecia Cooley (190-95, college: Arkansas) produced a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds and the former international guard Pia Mankertz (170-90) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. SV Halle Lions moved-up to second place in North, which they share with Bad Homburg and B.Loewen. Loser Rotenburg/Scheessel dropped to the ninth position with three games lost. SV Halle Lions will face Baskets Grunberg (#5) in Gruenberg in the next round. Rotenburg/Scheessel will play on the road against ASC Theresianum Mainz (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
