Important game to mention about took place in Bucurest. Agronomia (1-0) saved a 3-point victory at home edging Alexandria (0-1) 61-58 on Sunday evening. The hosts were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 16 after three quarters before a 21-8 last quarter charge of Alexandria cut the lead to 61-58 at the end of the game. Agronomia forced 20 Alexandria turnovers. Strangely Alexandria outrebounded Agronomia 45-31 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Alexandra Chitanu (174-95) notched 20 points and 4 assists to lead the effort and center Mihaela Chelariu (186-92) supported her with 9 points, 13 rebounds and 6 blocks. Even a double-double of 13 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists by point guard Mihaela Mihai (169-90) did not help to save the game for Alexandria. Tania Fieresteanu added 4 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Agronomia will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Alexandria will play at home against Rapid Bucuresti (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
