ProB top team - Bayer Giants (5-0) had no problems winning another game on Friday. This time they crushed tenth ranked Koeln Rh.Stars (0-5) in Leverkusen 72-44. They outrebounded Koeln Rh.Stars 51-39 including 36 on the defensive glass. Center Dennis Heinzmann (216-91) stepped up and scored 8 points and 16 rebounds for the winners and American forward Nick Hornsby (201-95, college: Sacramento St.) chipped in 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Benedict Van-Laack (196-97) responded with 9 points and 11 rebounds and Angolan-French guard Silvio Mateus (185-94) scored 11 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Bayer Giants. They maintain first place in South with 5-0 record, which they share with Fraport SKY II. Koeln Rh.Stars lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Bayer Giants will face Giessen 46ers II (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Koeln Rh.Stars will play against FC Bayern II and look forward to get finally their first victory.
