Regular Season Round 7: Nevezis - Prienu Skycop 80-78

A very interesting game took place in Kedainiai. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of higher ranked Prienu Skycop (3-4) to ninth ranked Nevezis (2-5) 80-78 on Sunday evening. It looked good early as Prienu Skycop took a 15-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Nevezis took control and eventually winning the game that evening by 2 points. Worth to mention a great performance of swingman Martynas Varnas (196-97) who helped to win the game recording 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Gabas Maldunas (206-93, college: Dartmouth) contributed with 14 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. The former international center Darjus Lavrinovic (212-79) answered with 24 points and 7 rebounds and point guard Ovidijus Varanauskas (188-91, agency: Players Group) added 17 points and 9 assists in the effort for Prienu Skycop. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Nevezis moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Juventus. Prienu Skycop at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Nevezis' next round opponent will be Juventus (#8) in Utena. Prienu Skycop will play on the road against Dzukija in Alytus and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
