Regular Season Round 5: Loewen - Rhoendorf 62-87

Dragons Rhoendorf has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Erfurt, where they outplayed Loewen (0-5) 87-62 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was Lithuanian center Zygimantas Riauka (205-93, college: Wisc.-Parkside) who scored 19 points and 9 rebounds. Philipp Gruber (193-96) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Dragons Rhoendorf's coach Thomas Adelt felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Robert Franklin (195-81, college: N.Mexico Highlands) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and guard David Taylor (190-95, college: Pacific) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Dragons Rhoendorf (1-4) left bottom position moving up to ninth place in South, which they share with Coburg. It was Loewen's fifth loss in a row. Newly promoted team still closes the standings with five games lost. They share the position with Koeln Rh.Stars. Dragons Rhoendorf will meet at home higher ranked Elchingen (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Loewen will play against Coburg (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
