Regular Season Round 3: Flames - Piraten 88-86

Very important is a road loss of Worthersee Piraten (2-1) against Flames (1-2) on Friday night. Visiting Worthersee Piraten was edged by Flames in a tough game in Vienna 86-88. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-21. But Worthersee Piraten won second period 23-21. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Flames dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Worthersee Piraten's 26. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was naturalized Argentinian forward Fabricio Vay (207-86, agency: Interperformances) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 14 rebounds. Bosnian-Slovenian center Fuad Memcic (209-82, agency: Promotex) chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds. Flames' coach Franz Zderadicka used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the other side the best for losing team was Slovenian guard Elvis Keric (193-98) who recorded 27 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists and naturalized Bosnian forward Maximilian Kunovjanek (199-87) added 22 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Flames will meet Lions (#9) in the next round. Worthersee Piraten will play against Deutsch-Wagram (#10) and hope to secure a win.
