Regular Season Round 6: Neuss - Mainz 98-59

The game between closely ranked teams ended with bottom-ranked ASC Theresianum Mainz's (0-6) road loss to tenth ranked TG Neuss (2-4) 59-98 on Saturday. TG Neuss dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to ASC Theresianum Mainz's 24. TG Neuss forced 25 ASC Theresianum Mainz turnovers and outrebounded them 45-28 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. TG Neuss looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by ASC Theresianum Mainz's players. Power forward Jana Heinrich (188-86, college: San Diego St.) had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 5 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Dara Taylor (172-91, college: Penn St.) chipped in 16 points, 9 assists and 6 steals during the contest. Four TG Neuss players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Bulgarian Antonia Filipova (180-98) with 18 points and point guard Katharina Schnitzler (173-87, college: La-Monroe) scored 6 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. TG Neuss moved-up to eighth place in North. Newly promoted ASC Theresianum Mainz still closes the standings with six games lost. TG Neuss will have a break next round. ASC Theresianum Mainz will play at home against SV Halle Lions (#3) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
