Regular Season Round 5: Goettingen - Crailsheim 93-80

Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (1-4) lost on the road to sixth ranked BG Goettingen (4-1) 93-80 on Sunday. BG Goettingen dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Crailsheim Merlins' 22. BG Goettingen looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American Darius Carter (201-92, college: Wichita St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 17 points and 7 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Stephan Haukohl (205-93) contributed with 16 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Australian swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta) answered with 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and the former international forward Konrad Wysocki (202-82, college: Princeton) added 11 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Crailsheim Merlins. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. BG Goettingen have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Giessen 46ers. Newly promoted Crailsheim Merlins dropped to the fifteenth position with four games lost. BG Goettingen will face league's second-placed ALBA Berlin on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Crailsheim Merlins will play against the league's leader Bayern Muenchen (#1) and hope to win that game.
