Regular Season Round 4: Piraten - Deutsch-Wagram 93-71
Date: October 28, 2018
Bottom-ranked Deutsch-Wagram (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 93-71 loss to fourth ranked Worthersee Piraten (3-1) in Klagenfurt on Sunday evening. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Worthersee Piraten. Deutsch-Wagram was better in fourth quarter 18-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Worthersee Piraten dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Deutsch-Wagram's 30 and made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Deutsch-Wagram 48-24 including a 32-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. Deutsch-Wagram was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Slovenian guard Elvis Keric (193-98) fired 18 points and 5 assists for the winners. Guard Lukas Simoner (190-99) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. Five Worthersee Piraten players scored in double figures. Forward Marko Goranovic (202-0) produced 12 points and 6 rebounds and guard Simon Marek (180-1) added 12 points respectively for lost side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Worthersee Piraten moved-up to second place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Deutsch-Wagram still closes the standings with four games lost. Worthersee Piraten will face UBC St. Polten (#6) in St.Polten in the next round. Deutsch-Wagram will play at home against Lions (#7) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
