Regular Season Round 6: Mersin Gelisim - Bursa BSB 54-89

Very expected game when 15th ranked Mersin Gelisim (1-5) was smashed at home by ninth ranked Bursa BSB (3-3) 89-54 on Friday. Bursa BSB dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Mersin Gelisim's 18. Bursa BSB forced 20 Mersin Gelisim turnovers and outrebounded them 55-23 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Bursa BSB looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Mersin Gelisim's players. It was a good game for American power forward Sharon Houston (191-88, college: IU Northwest, agency: Gamble Sports Management) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 24 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Burcu Erbas (173-88) contributed with 17 points and 7 assists for the winners. Bursa BSB's coach felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Point guard Melisa Korkmaz (172-97) replied with 15 points and 5 assists and Yagmur Ozturk (-98, agency: FlyBasketball) added 8 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists in the effort for Mersin Gelisim. Bursa BSB moved-up to seventh place. Loser Mersin Gelisim dropped to the fourteenth position with five games lost. Bursa BSB will face Akdeniz U. (#12) in the next round where they are favorite. Mersin Gelisim will play against the league's leader Cankaya where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
