Regular Season Round 5: HAKRO Merlins - NINERS Academy 101-98

No shocking result in a game when third ranked HAKRO Merlins (3-4) edged bottom-ranked NINERS (0-5) in Crailsheim 101-98 on Saturday. However just three-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. HAKRO Merlins made 31-of-37 free shots (83.8 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. NINERS was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Serbian point guard Aleksa Kovacevic (187-2) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 15 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Center Soeren Urbansky (214-0) contributed with 27 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. HAKRO Merlins' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Bruno Albrecht (188-1) answered with 29 points and 4 assists and center Robin Kottke (210-1) added 14 points and 12 rebounds in the effort for NINERS. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Despite that victory HAKRO Merlins went down to fifth position (Group 3) due to points difference. NINERS lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. HAKRO Merlins will face Junior Loewen (#7) in Braunschweig in the next round. NINERS will play at home against the league's second-placed Heroes and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
