Regular Season Round 5: Spartak Pleven - Balkan 72-93

We could consider it a predictable result in the game between close teams when fifth ranked Balkan (3-2) crushed on the road 4th placed Spartak Pleven (2-2) 93-72 on Saturday. They outrebounded Spartak Pleven 41-24 including 31 on the defensive glass. Balkan looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Serbian-French power forward Alexandre Gavrilovic (208-91, college: Towson, agency: Duran International) nailed a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winning side and American forward Mikael Hopkins (206-93, college: Georgetown) accounted for 11 points and 10 rebounds. Five Balkan players scored in double figures. Forward Konstantin Koev (196-91) came up with 28 points and 6 rebounds (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) and point guard Nikolay Marinov (190-94) added 12 points and 4 assists respectively for Spartak Pleven in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Balkan moved-up to third place. Loser Spartak Pleven keeps the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Beroe. Balkan will meet at home Yambol (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Spartak Pleven will play against Beroe (#4) in Stara Zagora and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
