The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Akademik Sofia as it allowed them to take a leadership position after previous leader's (Athletic Sofia) loss. Akademik Sofia defeated top-ranked Athletic Sofia at home 79-69. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Athletic Sofia. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Akademik Sofia forced 20 Athletic Sofia turnovers and outrebounded them 43-29 including 19 on the offensive glass. The winners were led by guard Aleksandar Milov (198-95) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 13 points and 14 rebounds and power forward Andrey Ivanov (206-96) supported him with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Akademik Sofia's coach Ivan Kocev allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 10 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists by center Krastan Krastanov (206-99) did not help to save the game for Athletic Sofia. Guard Todor Zahariev (190-92) added 20 points for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Akademik Sofia have a solid three-game winning streak. As mentioned above they took over a top position. Athletic Sofia at the other side dropped to the second place with one game lost. Athletic Sofia will have a break next week, which should allow them to rest in order to get back on the winning path. Akademik Sofia will try to continue on its current victory against fourth ranked Rilski 2 at Samokov.
