Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked OrangeAcademy (3-4) lost to leader Bayer Giants (7-0) in Leverkusen 74-84 on Sunday. Bayer Giants made 21-of-24 free shots (87.5 percent) during the game. Bayer Giants outrebounded OrangeAcademy 44-33 including 30 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. OrangeAcademy was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Quite impressive performance for swingman Tim Schoenborn (193-90) who helped to win the game recording 24 points. American forward Nick Hornsby (201-95, college: Sacramento St.) contributed with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Center Nicolas Bretzel (212-99) answered with 25 points and 9 rebounds and forward Christoph Philipps (203-98) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for OrangeAcademy. Four OrangeAcademy players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Bayer Giants have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place in South with 7-0 record. Loser OrangeAcademy keeps the seventh position with four games lost. Bayer Giants will face league's second-placed Fraport Skyliners II in Frankfurt in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. OrangeAcademy will play at home against Wuerzburg (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
