Regular Season Round 6: Marmatiei - Targu Jiu 92-80

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Targu Jiu (4-2) against fifth ranked Marmatiei (4-2) on Wednesday night. Visiting Targu Jiu was defeated by Marmatiei in 92-80. It looked good early as Targu Jiu took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Marmatiei had a 23-18 second period charge getting the lead and Targu Jiu was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-92. Marmatiei players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Americans were the main players on the court. Guard Allan Thomas (193-90, college: Georgetown, KY) notched 22 points, 8 rebounds and 9 assists to lead the effort and guard Joe Edwards (196-92, college: PFW) supported him with 29 points and 8 rebounds. Four Marmatiei players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 41 points (!!!) and 17 rebounds by center Kevin Allen (211, college: Emporia St., agency: Haylett Sports) did not help to save the game for Targu Jiu. Point guard Joshua Mason (193-90, college: Fresno Pacific) added 10 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Marmatiei have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Targu Jiu. Marmatiei will play against Miercurea Ciuc (#8) on the road in the next round. Targu Jiu will play against Agronomia Buc. (#7) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
