Very important is a road loss of third ranked SG Schwelmer Baskets (5-3) against fourth ranked SparkassenStars (5-3) on Saturday night. Visiting SG Schwelmer Baskets were defeated by SparkassenStars in a tough game in Bochum 70-79. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of SG Schwelmer Baskets. SparkassenStars dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to SG Schwelmer Baskets' 28. They outrebounded SG Schwelmer Baskets 45-23 including a 32-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American guard Montrael Scott (190-93, college: Prairie View A&M) who scored 13 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Florian Wendeler (205-93) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Four SparkassenStars players scored in double figures. Point guard Niklas Geske (188-94) produced 19 points and 5 assists and American guard Erik Durham (193-94, college: Jacksonville St.) added 14 points respectively for the guests. SparkassenStars moved-up to third place in North, which they share with Schwelm and BSW Sixers. SparkassenStars will meet ETB Wohnbau (#12) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SG Schwelmer Baskets will play against Muenster (#9) and hope to secure a win.
