Regular Season Round 5: Ankara DSI - Akhisar Bld 70-83

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both eighth ranked Akhisar Bld and 9th ranked Ankara D.S.I. had identical 2-2 record. But Ankara D.S.I. was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Akhisar 83-70 on Saturday night. Akhisar Bld outrebounded Ankara D.S.I. 36-24 including a 27-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Akhisar Bld especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. Ankara D.S.I. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Tufan Onen (202-89) stepped up and scored 22 points and 5 rebounds for the winners and American power forward Curtis Kelly (208-88, college: Kansas St., agency: HMS) chipped in 13 points and 7 rebounds. Four Akhisar Bld players scored in double figures. Swingman Kaan Sariaslan (193-97) responded with 18 points and swingman Burak Erol (197-88) scored 12 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Akhisar Bld (3-2) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Ankara D.S.I. keeps the ninth position with three games lost. Akhisar Bld will face league's second-placed Karesi Spor at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Ankara D.S.I. will play against Final Spor (#14) in Bursa and hope to win that game.
