Regular Season Round 7: Targu Jiu - Agronomia Buc. 83-65

No shocking result in a game in Rovinari where fifth ranked Targu Jiu (5-2) won against 7th ranked Agronomia Buc. (2-5) 83-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Targu Jiu. Agronomia Buc. was better in third quarter 26-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Targu Jiu dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Agronomia Buc.'s 28. They outrebounded Agronomia Buc. 45-34 including a 36-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Targu Jiu looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for American center Kevin Allen (211, college: Emporia St., agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. His fellow American import point guard Joshua Mason (193-90, college: Fresno Pacific) helped adding 13 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Four Targu Jiu players scored in double figures. Targu Jiu's coach Claudiu Alionescu used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the losing side Hara Visan responded with 27 points and 5 rebounds and point guard Gheorghe Balmus (180-92) scored 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Targu Jiu moved-up to third place, which they share with Marmatiei. Agronomia Buc. lost their fifth game in a row. Agronomia Buc. at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Targu Jiu will face Focsani (#5) on the road in the next round. Agronomia Buc. will play against Miercurea Ciuc and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
