Regular Season Round 9: Koblenz - Mainz 100-49

Very expected game when 9th ranked Mainz (3-5) was rolled over on the road by first ranked Koblenz (7-1) 100-49 on Saturday. Koblenz dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 18 and made 23-of-25 free shots (92.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Mainz 43-26 including 31 on the defensive glass. Koblenz looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Mainz's players. The best player for the winners was forward Yassin Mahfouz (194-93) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). Point guard Steffen Haufs (188-95) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 9 assists. Five Koblenz players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Fabian Bahlke (192-94) who recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds and naturalized American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) added 13 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Koblenz. They maintain first place in South-West with 7-1 record, which they share with Speyer. Loser Mainz dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Koblenz will face Fellbach (#11) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mainz will play against Mannheim and hope to win that game.
