Regular Season Round 9: Speyer - Giessen 84-56

Date: November 10, 2018
Not a big story in a game when 7th ranked Giessen Pointers (4-4) were outplayed on the road by second ranked Speyer (7-1) 84-56 on Saturday. Speyer forced 24 Giessen Pointers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Speyer made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American guard DJ Woodmore (190-92, college: Va.Wesleyan) who scored 25 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Dmitrj Kreis (187-88) chipped in 13 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Four Speyer players scored in double figures. Speyer's coach Carl Mbassa felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Christopher Miller (192-93, college: Salem Intern.) who recorded 14 points and center Julian Reinwald (209) added 7 points and 7 rebounds respectively. The victory was the third consecutive win for Speyer. They keep a position of South-West leader, which they share with Koblenz. Newly promoted Giessen Pointers dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. Speyer will face Kaiserslautern (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Giessen Pointers will play against Karlsruhe SC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
