Regular Season Round 5: Canik Belediye - Botas 49-71

Very expected game when 9th ranked Canik Belediye (2-3) was smashed by fourth ranked Botas (4-1) in Samsun 71-49. Botas brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was American power forward Elizabeth Williams (190-93, college: Duke) who scored 17 points, 8 rebounds and 6 blocks. Her fellow American import guard Jewell Loyd (178-93, college: Notre Dame) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Four Botas players scored in double figures. Botas' coach felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Sequoia Holmes (183-86, college: UNLV) produced 15 points and 5 rebounds and the former international forward Deniz Colakoglu (185-87) added 7 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. The victory was the third consecutive win for Botas. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Besiktas and Fenerbahce. Canik Belediye lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with three games lost. Botas' next round opponent will be Besiktas (#3) in Istanbul, which may be the game of the day. Canik Belediye will play at home against Kayseri (#11) and hope to win that game.
