Date: November 11, 2018
There was a minor upset in Quakenbrueck where higher ranked Baunach (4-5) was crushed by twelfth ranked Artland Dragons (4-5) 98-76 on Sunday. Artland Dragons forced 21 Baunach turnovers and had a 27-13 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 65.0 percentage. Artland Dragons looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Baunach's players. Baunach was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Chase Griffin (190-83, college: Pepperdine) stepped up and scored 27 points and 5 assists for the winners and his fellow American import guard Pierre Bland (188-92, college: PFW) chipped in 16 points and 9 assists. The best for the losing side was point guard Marvin Heckel (190-97) with 17 points and Estonian point guard Kristian Kullamaee (190-99, agency: Dynamics Global Management) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Artland Dragons moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 4 other teams including defeated Baunach. Artland Dragons will face bottom-ranked White Wings (#16) in Hanau in the next round and are hoping to win another game.
