Everything went according to plan in Erfurt where eighth ranked Loewen (3-6) won against 12th ranked Koeln Rh.Stars (1-8) 86-76 on Sunday. Loewen made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Loewen outrebounded Koeln Rh.Stars 40-27 including 29 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was point guard Maximilian Kuhle (184-91) who scored 36 points (!!!). American forward Robert Franklin (195-81, college: N.Mexico Highlands) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Loewen's coach Florian Gut used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. At the other side the best for losing team was center Yasin Kolo (208-92, college: Bellarmine) who recorded 21 points and 7 rebounds and American guard Tucker Haymond (198-94, college: W.Michigan) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Four Koeln Rh.Stars players scored in double figures. Newly promoted Loewen maintains eighth place in South with 3-6 record, which they share with Coburg. Koeln Rh.Stars lost their third game in a row. They keep the twelfth position with eight games lost. Loewen will face higher ranked FC Bayern II (#4) in Muenchen in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Koeln Rh.Stars will play at home against Giessen 46ers II (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
