There was no surprise in Oldenburg where 17th ranked Crailsheim Merlins (1-8) were defeated by fifth ranked EWE Baskets (6-2) 87-79 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Austrian-Slovenian center Rasid Mahalbasic (210-90, agency: BeoBasket) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American point guard Will Cummings (188-92, college: Temple) chipped in 26 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Joe Lawson (201-92, college: Indianapolis) who recorded 18 points and 8 rebounds and Australian swingman Ben Madgen (193-85, college: Augusta) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Crailsheim Merlins players scored in double figures. EWE Baskets moved-up to third place, which they share with Brose Bask. Crailsheim Merlins lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. EWE Baskets will meet Telekom Baskets (#7) in the next round. Crailsheim Merlins will play against Brose Baskets (#3) and hope to win that game.
