Regular Season Round 8: Pinar Karsiyaka - Sakarya BSB 93-63

We should mention about the upset which took place in Karsiyaka, where 7th ranked Sakarya BSB (3-4) was outleveled in a road game by tenth ranked Pinar Karsiyaka (4-4) 93-63 on Saturday. Pinar Karsiyaka dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Sakarya BSB's 42. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Egyptian forward Assem Marei (206-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) who had a double-double by scoring 27 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international Ilkan Karaman (205-90) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Five Pinar Karsiyaka players scored in double figures. Belgian Jean Salumu (193-90) produced 21 points and 7 rebounds and American point guard Toney Douglas (188-86, college: Florida St.) added 13 points, 10 assists and 4 steals respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Pinar Karsiyaka moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser Sakarya BSB dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Pinar Karsiyaka will face league's leader Fenerbahce in Istanbul in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Sakarya BSB will play at home against Istanbul BBSK (#13) and hope to win that game.
