Regular Season Round 11: Giessen - Kaiserslautern 72-84

There was a minor upset when higher ranked Giessen Pointers (4-6) were defeated at home by eleventh ranked Kaiserslautern (4-6) 84-72 on Saturday. Kaiserslautern forced 22 Giessen Pointers turnovers. Strangely Giessen Pointers outrebounded Kaiserslautern 50-38 including 16 on the offensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for Hungarian guard Gergely Hosszu (190-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. American forward John Barber (200-85, college: Youngstown St.) helped adding 18 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Barber is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Point guard Lucas Mayer (183-99) responded with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists and American swingman Christopher Miller (192-93, college: Salem Intern.) scored 17 points and 7 rebounds. Giessen Pointers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Kaiserslautern moved-up to seventh place in South-West, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Giessen Pointers. Giessen Pointers lost their third game in a row. Kaiserslautern will face higher ranked Karlsruhe SC (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
