Regular Season Round 9: Galatasaray - Tofas 72-86

There was no surprise in Istanbul where 7th ranked Galatasaray (2-6) was defeated by third ranked Tofas (6-2) 86-72 on Saturday. Tofas dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Galatasaray's 38. Tofas forced 24 Galatasaray turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 31 assists. The best player for the winners was Emirhan Merdin (195-1) who scored 24 points. Guard Eray Durmayaz (189-1) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Mehmet Tugsal (198-0) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and guard Alp Oktay (189-1) added 10 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Four Galatasaray players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Tofas. They maintain third place with 6-2 record having just two points less than leader Pinar Karsiyaka. Loser Galatasaray keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Tofas will face Afyon (#9) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Galatasaray's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Istanbul to the arena Anadolu Efes.
