Regular Season Round 11: Speyer - Mainz 84-64

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Speyer (9-1) outscored at home 12th ranked Mainz (3-7) 84-64 on Saturday. Speyer dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Mainz's 32 and had 22 for 31 from the free-throw line, while Mainz only scored five points from the stripe. They outrebounded Mainz 43-27 including 31 on the defensive glass. Mainz was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for guard Dmitrj Kreis (187-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 11 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Tim Schwartz (197-87) helped adding 15 points and 5 rebounds. Speyer's coach Carl Mbassa used a ten-player rotation saving starting five for next games. Naturalized American point guard Anish Sharda (188-82, college: St.Mary's, KS) responded with 17 points and 5 assists and Fabian Bahlke (192-94) scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Four Mainz players scored in double figures. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Speyer. They keep a position of South-West leader, which they share with Koblenz. Mainz lost their third game in a row. They dropped to the eleventh place with seven games lost. Speyer will face Fellbach (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Mainz will play against Giessen Pointers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
