Everything went according to plan when third ranked Herford (7-2) outscored at home 13th ranked Deutzer (1-9) 93-61 on Saturday. They outrebounded Deutzer 37-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Lithuanian forward Vaidotas Volkus (203-85, college: Redlands CC) who led his team to a victory scoring 24 points and 6 rebounds. American guard Sam Cassell-Jr (193-92, college: Iona) helped adding 23 points and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Florian Schulz (196) responded with 13 points and forward Philipp Pfeifer (196-97) scored 12 points. Four Deutzer players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Herford moved-up to second place in West, which they share with Hertener Loewen. Deutzer lost their ninth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with nine games lost. Herford will face Grevenbroich (#6) on the road in the next round. Deutzer will play against Leverkusen FB (#11) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
