Regular Season Round 8: Mazeikiu SM - Tornado KM 92-66

Very predictable result in Mazeikiai where fifth ranked Mazeikiu SM (6-4) smashed 11th ranked Tornado KM (2-8) 92-66 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Mazeikiu SM. Tornado KM managed to win fourth quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Mazeikiu SM forced 22 Tornado KM turnovers and outrebounded them 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Tornado KM's players. The best player for the winners was Edgaras Preibys (203-2) who scored 22 points (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). Rokas Triausys (196-1) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Laurynas Virbalas produced 24 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Domantas Butkys added 25 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Mazeikiu SM have a solid three-game winning streak. Despite that victory Mazeikiu SM went down to sixth position due to points difference. Tornado KM lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the ninth place with eight games lost. They share the position with Zalgiris U18 and Silutes SM. Mazeikiu SM will meet higher ranked Panevezio (#5) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Tornado KM will play against Silutes SM (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
