Regular Season Round 12: Mainz - Giessen 80-85

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Mainz (3-8) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Giessen Pointers (5-6) 85-80 on Saturday. Giessen Pointers made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of center Julian Reinwald (209) who helped to win the game recording 17 points and 8 rebounds and Dominik Turudic (202-94) who added 14 points and 6 rebounds during the contest. Four Giessen Pointers players scored in double figures. Giessen Pointers' coach Daniel Doerr used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was American point guard Kewan Beebe (183-93, college: Geneseo St.) with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Maximilian Befort (203-94) scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Giessen Pointers moved-up to sixth place in South-West, which they share with Stuttgart. Mainz lost fifth consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with eight games lost. Giessen Pointers will face Fellbach (#11) at home in the next round where they are favorite. Mainz will play against Kaiserslautern and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
