Regular Season Round 9: Boa Viagem - AD Vagos 56-58

Bottom-ranked Boa Viagem (0-9) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 58-56 loss to sixth ranked AD Vagos (5-3) in Angra Heroismo. They also forced 25 Boa Viagem turnovers. Strangely Boa Viagem outrebounded AD Vagos 41-26 including a 33-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for international forward Joana Canastra (174-94) who led her team to a victory with 12 points, 7 assists and 6 steals. Daniela Jesus contributed with 15 points for the winners. AD Vagos' coach Joao Janeiro used entire bench in such tough game. American center Kayla Grimme (188-95, college: Manhattan) answered with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds and American-Guyanese guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) added 18 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Boa Viagem. Four Boa Viagem players scored in double figures. AD Vagos moved-up to fourth place, which they share with GDESSA. Boa Viagem lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. AD Vagos will play against higher ranked Uniao Sportiva (#3) in Ponta Delgada in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Boa Viagem will play at home against Ovarense (#8) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
