Regular Season Round 15: SumDU - Mariupol 71-41

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Mariupol (8-4) against seventh ranked SumDU (4-10) on Sunday night. Visiting Mariupol was crushed by SumDU in Sumy 71-41. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Mariupol. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 18-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 71-41. SumDU held Mariupol to an opponent 23.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.3 percent accuracy of the winners. SumDU forced 19 Mariupol turnovers and outrebounded them 54-34 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for forward Vsevolod Chesak (200-97) who led the winners and scored 20 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Igor Starodub (187-97) accounted for 12 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals for the winning side. Point guard Roman Bey (191-95) came up with 13 points and 6 rebounds and guard Ivan Mikhyeyev (190-99) added 2 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Mariupol in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. SumDU moved-up to sixth place. Loser Mariupol keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with KDPU. SumDU will meet Kremen (#9) in the next round. Mariupol will play against Kharkivski Sokoly (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
