Regular Season Round 10: Univ.Cluj - Marmatiei 83-92

Bottom-ranked Univ.Cluj (0-10) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 92-83 loss to third ranked Marmatiei (8-2) in Cluj Napoca on Tuesday evening. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Univ.Cluj won third quarter 27-16. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Marmatiei made 10 blocks. American guard Allan Thomas (193-90, college: Georgetown, KY) fired 41 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Lucian Tibirna chipped in 13 points, 8 rebounds and 5 blocks. Rares Mihasan (-99) produced 26 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and forward Tudor Bichis (190-99) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Four Univ.Cluj players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Marmatiei have an impressive six-game winning streak. Newly promoted Marmatiei maintains third position with 8-2 record having just five point less than leader Voluntari. Univ.Cluj at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with ten games lost. Marmatiei will face league's second-placed Targu Mures at home in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Univ.Cluj will play against Agronomia Buc. (#8) in Bucuresti and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
