Not a big story in a game in Istanbul where 11th ranked Artvin (3-6) was outplayed by sixth ranked Sigortam.net ITU (5-4) 93-70 on Friday. Sigortam.net ITU made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. Sigortam.net ITU outrebounded Artvin 36-23 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The former international swingman Cenk Akyol (198-87, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 31 points and 9 assists for the winners and American forward Jerome Frink (201-93, college: LIU Brooklyn) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!). Five Sigortam.net ITU players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American point guard Ricky Tarrant (188-93, college: Memphis) with 28 points and guard Ozgur Sahin (190-93) scored 18 points and 6 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Sigortam.net ITU. They maintain sixth place with 5-4 record, which they share with Yeni Mamak and Akhisar Bld. Newly promoted Artvin keeps the eleventh position with six games lost. Sigortam.net ITU will meet higher ranked Duzce Belediye (#3) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Artvin will play against Yeni Mamak (#6) and hope to secure a win.
