Regular Season Round 9: Balkan - Beroe 82-90

The most interesting game of round 9 in the NBL was a home defeat of 4th placed Balkan (5-3) to third ranked Beroe (6-2) 90-82. It ended the three-game winning streak of Balkan. Beroe made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. International forward Aleksandar Yanev-Georgiev (203-90, agency: 011 Sports) stepped up and scored 26 points and 7 rebounds (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) for the winners and American guard Adonis Filer (195-93, college: Florida Atlantic) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. Five Beroe players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Brandon Brown (186-89, college: Montana-West) with 24 points and 6 assists and the other American import forward Mikael Hopkins (206-93, college: Georgetown) scored 17 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Beroe have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Rilski. Balkan at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Beroe will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Balkan will play at home against Academik Plovdiv (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
