Regular Season Round 16: Ternopil-TNEU - Hoverla 95-96

The most exciting game of round 16 in the Higher League took place in Ternopil. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of their biggest opponent Ternopil-TNEU (12-2) to third ranked Hoverla (10-4) 96-95 on Saturday evening. The guests trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 5-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 96-95. Hoverla made 24-of-26 free shots (92.3 percent) during the game. Strangely Ternopil-TNEU outrebounded Hoverla 47-27 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Ternopil-TNEU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Guard Oleksandr Shostuha (191-84) fired 33 points (!!!) and 8 assists (made all of his fifteen free throws !!!) for the winners. Power forward Vitaly Vintoniak (202-93) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Maxim Nikitin (201-89) produced a double-double by scoring 27 points and 12 rebounds and guard Mykyta Naiko (197-92) added 25 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Hoverla maintains third position with 10-4 record having just three points less than leader Prometey. Newly promoted Ternopil-TNEU keeps the second place with two games lost. Hoverla will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ternopil-TNEU will play again at home against Hoverla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
