Regular Season Round 11: Boa Viagem - Uniao Sportiva 42-94
Date: December 8, 2018
Bottom-ranked Boa Viagem (0-11) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their 11th consecutive match to third ranked Uniao Sportiva (9-2) 94-42. Uniao Sportiva dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Boa Viagem's 32 and made 16-of-18 charity shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Uniao Sportiva forced 26 Boa Viagem turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Boa Viagem's players. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Sara Djassi (180-89, college: Cent.Florida) who led the winners and scored 28 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!). Mali center Kankou Coulibaly (185-90) accounted for 12 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. Four Uniao Sportiva players scored in double figures. American-Guyanese guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) came up with 16 points and 9 rebounds and American center Kayla Grimme (188-95, college: Manhattan) added 15 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Boa Viagem in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Uniao Sportiva have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion moved-up to second place, which they share with Olivais. Boa Viagem at the other side still closes the standings with 11 games lost. Uniao Sportiva will play against Benfica (#7) in Lisbona in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Boa Viagem will play on the road against GDESSA (#4) in Barreiro and hopes to get finally their first victory.
