Regular Season Round 10: Perkunas - Tornado KM 85-80

Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Kaunas: Perkunas (#3) and Tornado KM (#11). Despite it looked like an easy game for Perkunas, those rules do not exist in derby games. It's more the case of honor for local supporters and such games have that special and unique approach you cannot find in other games. Guest Tornado KM challenged much higher ranked Perkunas giving them a very tough game, but finally losing it by five points 85-80. It looked good early as Tornado KM took a 1-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then Perkunas had a 18-14 second period charge getting the lead and Tornado KM was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 80-85. Perkunas dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Tornado KM's 40. Forward Gabrielius Celka (198-1) fired a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Power forward Martynas Ziukas (198-1) chipped in a double-double by scoring 13 points, 20 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Perkunas players scored in double figures. Point guard Gytis Macionis (192-1) produced a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Dominykas Bukauskas (-1) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively for lost side. Tornado KM's coach Andrius Macijauskas rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Perkunas have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with V.Knasiaus KM. Tornado KM lost seventh consecutive game. They keep the eleventh position with eight games lost. Perkunas' next round opponent will be Panevezio (#5) on the road. Tornado KM will play against the league's second-placed V.Knasiaus KM (#2) and hope to win that game.
